Good early signs from comparison website pilot

Since March, we have been running a pilot scheme which aims to further improve the information available to the public when choosing a legal services provider.

Because of the initial success of the project, we will be extending it beyond its original six months and are opening up to more firms to take part. There were more than 70 to start with, but you could now join in to see how comparison websites could work for you.

Working alongside the Council for Licensed Conveyancers, CILEx Regulation and the Bar Standards Board, the pilot aims to encourage greater use of online information within the legal sector, including through comparison websites and online review platforms. It focuses initially on conveyancing and employment law services.

So far, firms have found there are more benefits to taking part in the project than simply engagement. They told us:

  • Many of them now routinely monitor for reviews on different platforms
  • Online reviews are a key part of managing client feedback, both good and bad
  • They mostly use client reviews proactively, including to inform continual improvement, staff reward programmes, not just for marketing
  • They are increasingly proactive in asking clients to post reviews
  • They are making online reviews more and more visible to potential clients from their own websites

JCP Solicitors is one of the law firms taking part in the pilot. Amy Seppman, JCP Marketing Director, said: “Information that helps to explain the quality of law firms to members of the public is really important, and online reviews, in particular, are increasingly significant for firms to gain new business and learn from our clients through active listening. We think the pilot is a good opportunity for law firms to work with regulators and review websites to explore different approaches together that can benefit our sector.”
