Closed Consultation

Equality and diversity strategy

16 April 2009

The deadline for submission of responses to this consultation on our equality and diversity strategy was 23 December 2008.

A summary report on responses to this consultation and a revised strategy and action plan were considered by the SRA Board on 22 January 2009.
This strategy has since been superseded by the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion strategy.

The information that appears below is for reference purposes only.

Everyone with whom the SRA works—members of the public who receive legal services, solicitors and others working in solicitors' firms, and our own staff—is drawn from a diverse community. We have a duty and commitment to ensure that we promote equality of opportunity for all and respect the diversity, and make use of that diversity to promote our objectives.

We have now published our first equality and diversity strategy, along with a strategic action plan that sets out the steps we need to take to ensure that equality and diversity is embedded into the culture and work of the SRA. The plan incorporates recommendations from the Ouseley report (July 2008).

We are eager to learn the views of stakeholders about the strategy and action plan. We are especially interested in hearing from members of the public and consumers of legal services.
