The website 'www.workpermit-visa.uk' is operating claiming to be for a law firm called 'UK Immigration Lawyers'/'Work Permit UK Visa Bureau Unit'.

What is the scam?

The website 'www.workpermit-visa.uk' is operating claiming to be for a law firm called 'UK Immigration Lawyers'/'Work Permit UK Visa Bureau Unit'.

The website falsely claims that it is the 'immigration law division' of a genuine firm (see below) and falsely claims that it is authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. The website provides a picture of the SRA clickable logo for verification, but the website is not verified. The supposed firm also falsely claims to employ two genuine solicitors (see below).

The website provides postal addresses of '2 Marsham Street, City of London, SW1P 4DF' and '1 Middle Temple Lane, Middle Temple (Inn of Court), City of London, EC4Y 9AA', a telephone number of '0203 286 0857', a link to a 'WhatsApp' number of '+44 7748 666578' and email address 'contact@workpermit-visa.uk'.

The SRA does not authorise and regulate a firm of solicitors called 'UK Immigration Lawyers'/'Work Permit UK Visa Bureau Unit'.

Any business or transactions through 'UK Immigration Lawyers'/'Work Permit UK Visa Bureau Unit' or the above website, telephone numbers or email address are not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The genuine firm is based at 4 Middle Temple Lane, Middle Temple (Inn of Court), London, EC4Y 9AA. The genuine websites for the firm are https://immigrationandvisasolicitors.co.uk and https://lexlaw.co.uk.

The genuine firm of LexLaw Limited can be contacted on telephone number 0207 1830 529 or via email at contact@lexlaw.co.uk.

The SRA also regulates a genuine solicitor called Mohammed Jehanzeb Ghumman who is an Associate at LexLaw Limited.

Both LexLaw Limited and the genuine Mohammed Jehanzeb Ghumman have confirmed they have no connection to the website referred to in the above alert.

The SRA also regulates a genuine solicitor called Manveer (Veera) Sanghera, who is a consultant at CSB Solicitors Limited.

The genuine Manveer Sanghera has also confirmed she has no genuine connection to the website referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (eg. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
